  • FastLane - using World Wide Web-based systems to streamline interactions with research and educational communities.
  • Client-Server Migration - reengineering processes so that systems can be moved off mainframes and imaging technologies can be employed.
  • Communications Upgrade - moving Internet connection to T3 services and migrating internal network from Ethernet to a mixture of Fast Ethernet and Asynchronous Transfer Mode.

Biggest Challenge:

"To take advantage of new technologies at an appropriate time to improve current processes."

Management Approach:

"NSF has always had capital planning and investment management for all major IT investments. IT has always been a leader in the use of performance measurement. Our FastLane project is one of the 54 original Government Performance and Results Act projects."
