Voters Block

There are 1.4 million military service members stationed abroad. But according to a study of their voting behavior in the 2000 election, their lack of understanding about how to vote could be keeping them from participating.

  • 60%
    of service members said they never received a how-to-vote briefing, as the military requires.
  • 40%
    said the military didn't emphasize the importance of voting.
  • 85%
    of voting assistance officers, who help service members vote, said they're self-taught.
  • 30%
    have attended only one voting training session.
